HOW IT WORKS

The day is organised in several parts.

-We start off with the usual heath and safety speech and introduction to the workshop tools, layout and your pieces of silver. All over a cup of tea or coffee of course!

-You are given two discs of silver of different sizes, one piece of silver square wire and a chain or cord of your choice.

-After this we show you several ways you use these pieces of silver, techniques you can use, ways to form your silver into various designs. With plenty of examples of what you can create for inspiration.

DESIGN TIME

You now have time to design you desired piece!

Think carefully about how you like your piece of jewellery to look, how it will fit together, what finish you like and how you can use the techniques you've been shown. Are you going to make a pendant, bracelet or ring and pendant set?

Be mindful of the time though, every minute designing if eating into your making time!

This is where the competition begins!!!

Your design and finished pieces are judged on techniques used, quality of finish and inventiveness of the design!

Lunch

At this point you might have gotten a bit hungry, all this learning can build up an appetite!

Lunch time is up to you, I can arrange for sandwiches to be brought in or there are a great many great cafes in the high street just down the road! We highly recommend The Happy Cactus Cafe who are happy to book in large tables with notice, just let me know what you would like to do! Take an hour or so for lunch then come back ready to crack on.

GET MAKING!

On your return from lunch its time to start making!

The workshop is specially arranged to allow people to be working in situe. This is where there is lots of great team building opportunities!

-The central work bench is set for 6 places, you'll pick a team member to share with encouraging working together and giving you the opportunity to encourage each other along the way.

-Around the room are more work spaces each one set up for each technique. Soldering, Hammering, polishing and so on. This is really where it becomes a hive of activity like the old fashioned jewellery quarter workshops!

-Lots of moving around gives you the opportunity to look out for each other, being aware of your colleagues and the chance to observe each other at work.

-Your teachers can now advise and teach in smaller groups and one to one at each station as when you need it. Of course you can always help each other.

COMPETITION TIME!

It's time to judge who's a budding jeweller and who's more of just an ideas guy!

Your teachers will judge your work on:

-Amount of techniques used

-Inventiveness of design

-Effective use of materials

-Level of ability

Celebrate with a glass of bubbly at the end or a non alcoholic option and your day is complete!

Take home your pieces to show off in the office and to your friends and family along with your sense of achievement and pride in what you have created!
