How to take care of your jewellery.

All of my jewellery can be worn all day, every day! Every little ring is soldered so it wont open if ts pulled and I always design with longevity in mind! But do remember it is jewellery, its not indestructible!

There's lots of jewellery cleaners out there and its very important to read the instructions of the one your using as they can vary from company to company.

Silver is one of the most reactive metals used in jewellery, it just loves oxygen! It's constantly reacting with the air which is what makes its turn that darker tarnished colour when its not being constantly worn or handled. It also hates Chlorine, or other strong solvents and chemicals like the stuff in your hot tub.

Don't panic the tarnish can be removed! Your jewellery isn't ruined forever!

Lets talk about Dip!

-A dip is one of the quickest and most popular cleaners, and I've got a few hints and tips when it comes to dip.

  • Remember its a "dip" not a soak! Don't leave it in the dip over night!

  • Always rinse the jewellery afterwards to remove any excess.

  • You can dip it as many times as it takes and they quite often come with a handy brush to really give it a good scrub.

  • It is a chemical so be careful not to use it on softer stones like opals, turquoise, amber, emeralds or peals or things with glass like enamel as it can damage or remove the shine. You can use the brush to brush around the stones though. If it hasn't come with a brush a soft small tooth brush like a baby tooth brush is just as good.

  • A dip will remove the tarnish but it wont polish it and make it shiny, in fact it might leave it a bit dull or flat looking.

  • Choose the right dip for what your cleaning. there is gold, silver and delicate dips out there, formulated to clean the different types metals. silver dip is the harshest and will clean most things but you can take down a notch for more delicate items.

  • Yes it will stink your house out, open the window!

Polishing Cloths

Polishing cloths are brilliant or polishing wipes, these are usually ingrained with the polishing compound and will shine up the metal nicely. use them after a dip to bring back the shine is its gone a bit dull or just on their own.

You can buy double sided clothes that have a "pre polish- final polish" effect which is great for heavily scratched items. It wont remove the scratches but it will make shinier so you don't notice it so much.

A personal favorite is the connisours dry wipes, they last for ages as they are "dry" and they really work! Just keep using it until it falls apart.

The only exception is the tiny pearls, we would recommend taking your pearl jewellery off for showering and when applying products such as perfume and sun cream. Rule of thumb for pearls; last thing on, first thing off!
